Tip One:
The easiest way to start styling your family, is to start with one person, and I suggest that be Mum! It can be overwhelming trying to think of every family member's closet all at once. What do they have in their closet? Does that dress even fit? Will they even wear that? Starting with one person relieves some pressure, and then allows you to style everyone else around that person.
Tip Two:
Most people are led to believe that dressing in the same colour and completely matching is the best way to go for a family photo session - I can tell you it's not! Your photos will look flat.
Think textures, styles and colours. Some textures I love are lace, corduroy, linen and knits. Choose a colour palette that offers 3-4 colours, and then mix and match them throughout your family. I always recommend more neutral or earthy tones, lets just say bright orange or green doesn't edit nicely. You're most welcome to add your own flare to your outfits, and making sure you're comfortable is very important too!
It's best to steer clear of any clothing with characters, brand names, logos, or words printed on them. Simple, clean, and comfortable is best here!
Tip Three:
Involve your kids in the outfit choosing process! You've probably been in a situation before where you want your kids to wear a certain outfit and they just don't want to cooperate. Well this is why it's important to involve them in the process, let them have some say in what they wear but my suggestion is to already have 2-3 outfits laid out for them (chosen by you!). Let them choose their favourite out of those 2-3! They'll feel involved in the decision making and hopefully love their outfit too.
Tip Four:
Accessorise! Believe it or not, it's the small touches to your outfit that make it great. If a fedora hat is your vibe, feel free to wear one or bring it along. Think cute lace socks for your kids, belts, necklaces etc. Show off your personality by accessorising!
Tip Five:
Use Pinterest! Pinterest is my favourite place to scroll when it comes to inspiration. There are so many great examples of outfits and colours on here! Check out the link below to help get you started.
